Description

Size:  10-12 meters
Range: Swamps of North Arteria
Description:  This large aquatic hadrosaurid lives in the weed choked swamps throughout the continent where it feeds on water plants, shellfish, and other soft plants.  Unlike the South Arterian species, this one has a massive tail to push itself through the water while its forearms move in a breast stroke motion.  These herbivores are green and brown mottled to act as camouflage as it swims through.  The males have a large complex crest structure that is red during the mating season and the sails change color to show the mood.  The crests are similar to Parasaurolophus and therefore are hollow and can make a wide variety of calls to other members.  Unlike other species, they do not return to shore to lay eggs as their forelimbs aren't strong enough to haul themselves ashore. They travel through the rives to move between swamps in order to find new food.  Its size is usually enough to deter predator attacks but occasionally are attacked by Spinosaurus, large crocodiles, phytosaurs, and the occasional mosasaur that somehow travels through the swamp.  Their skin has small bones which add some protection, but in most cases they tend to flee to deeper water to escape a threat.  The females are larger than the males and will congregate as the males try to win their affection by calling them and fighting other males.  Males would call out to see who is louder and if that fails then the males will shove each other and the first one to go underwater wins.  The females give live birth to around 1-3 pups which will stay close for about a week before venturing out on their own.  They can live for about 80 years but the oldest recorded individual is 110.
